40 Years for the International Crane Foundation

In 2013 the International Crane Foundation is celebrating its 40th year of saving the world's crane population. Their efforts have saved wetlands and increased crane populations as well as improved peoples livelihoods on 5 continents.

Located in Baraboo, it is the only place where you can see all 15 crane species. The ICF is open to the public April 15th to October 31th from 9AM to 5PM.  There are tours available in the summer, or just come visit the birds or hike the trails. Friends of State Parks Make Parks Better

Keeping our State Parks looking good and running smoothly isn't just a job for the DNR. Many parks have "Friends of the Park" groups that volunteer to help keep the parks clean, make repairs and hold fundraisers.

16 of these groups have recently received matching Stewardship grants for updates to our parks. See this article from the Wisconsin DNR Weekly News about these grants and the projects the "Friends" will be undertaking.
MADISON – A new marsh boardwalk at Horicon Marsh, a new accessible cabin at Harrington Beach State Park and a group picnic shelter at Rib Mountain State Park are among the improvements that will be made thanks to 16 state park friends groups that received matching grants from the Knowles Nelson Stewardship Program.

The State of Wisconsin Building Commission last month approved the release of $248,600 in Stewardship property development funds for the 16 friends group projects that will begin this spring and summer after contracts are issued in early March 2013. These friends groups are providing a total of $668,000 in cash match for these projects.

Winter Wisconsin

No, this isn't about things to do in the snow.

Up in Sawyer County you will find the Village of Winter!  It wasn't named for the season, but for John Winter, a railroad man who help develop logging in the area.

Any time of year is a great time to visit Winter, which sits near the center of the Tuscobia State Trail, and near the Chequamagon National Forest and Flambeau State Forest. Many sites for camping, fishing, hiking, ATVing, hunting and more are all around the area.
